This feature film from 1993 is the second in The Three Colors trilogy, following Three Colors: Blue and preceding Three Colors: Red. The colors are a reference to the colors of the French flag and the political ideals of the French Revolution: liberty, equality, fraternity.
Karol, a Polish hairdresser living in Paris, is married to Dominique. The marriage disintegrates as a result of Karol’s inability to consummate it. Dominique leaves him with no money and Karol ends up in a Paris Metro station where he meets Mikołaj, a wealthy Pole who wants to die. The men become friends and Mikołaj helps Karol return to Poland – hidden in a…suitcase. Karol seeks revenge on his ex-wife and flings himself into shady business dealings.
